"Addicted to Love & Shadow" is the title of the book, comprising of several chapters. The first three chapters, titled "Addicted to Love" were written in 2000, and they follow the story of Haruki, who was betrayed by his girlfriend Kiyuka and his best friend Ikeda. After distancing himself from them, he becomes close friends with Atsushi, one of the most popular guys in school. During a conversation, Haruki realizes his mistakes and reconciles with Ikeda while accepting Kiyuka's relationship. As Haruki and Atsushi get closer, Haruki soon discovers he is in love with Atsushi, but the question remains about the evolution of their relationship. The other two chapters titled "Shadow" were written in 1998 and focus on the story of two childhood friends who undergo a significant transformation in their roles when they enter high school and attempt to overcome their fear of each other.
