Despite the inherent difficulties of street life, Ryuusei takes comfort in the independence it allows. While scavenging one day, he inadvertently wanders into gang-controlled turf and becomes involved in a heated altercation with a group of unruly thugs. In the midst of the commotion, a young girl comes running over, ecstatic at the sight of a cute litter of kittens. As he becomes more familiar with Nekonaki Town, Ryuusei comes to recognize the rigorous control that the local gangs have over the homeless population. Any unauthorized feeding or flirting, or even trespassing in their territory, comes with severe consequences. After clashing with the Nekonaki leader, Ryuusei faces the repercussions of his actions, but remains undeterred in his quest for a male calico cat with a damaged eye. Despite the risks involved, the speckled tabby persists in his mission, navigating the complex rules of stray cat life and battling against any obstacles that impede his progress.
