Princess Zelda and the shrine maidens are filled with dread during a stormy night as they suspect that Vaati's seal may be loosening. To ensure their safety, Zelda summons Link and invites him to the castle, where he is tasked with safeguarding the princess and her companions while they access the portal to the Four Sword Sanctuary. Upon opening the portal, a mysterious figure emerges - Shadow Link. This impostor proceeds to abduct the shrine maidens and imprison them in crystals. Link pursues the culprit to the sanctuary, where he acquires the Four Sword - a mystical weapon which has the power to fragment its user into four identical clones. Using the sword, Link defeats Shadow Link and frees the maidens from their crystal confines.
