Mazinger Angels chronicles the adventures of four women who pilot giant robots in the Mazinger vein. The concept is a spoof on the late 70's and early 80's popular TV series Charlie's Angels. Three of the robots, Aphrodite A, Diana A and Minerva X are from the original Mazinger Z series, while Venus A is from the Great Mazinger series. Their pilots are also traditional characters from Go Nagai's universe, Sayaka Yumi and Jun Hono from Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger respectively, and Hikaru Makiba and Maria Fleed from Grendizer. It is the first of the SEED Astray series.Whereas the main story of Gundam SEED focuses on the struggles between the Earth Alliance, ZAFT, and Orb Union, the Astray series is focused on the three MBF-P mobile suit prototypes and their respective pilots and organizations, who mainly exist on the outskirts of the main SEED storyline. The MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame is piloted by Lowe Guele of the Junk Guild, and the MBF-P03 Gundam Astray Blue Frame is piloted by Gai Murakumo of the mercenary group Serpent Tail. The third Astray, MBF-P01 Gundam Astray Gold Frame, is piloted by the primary antagonist of the Astray story, Orb nobleman Rondo Ghina Sahaku, and later by his twin sister Rondo Mina Sahaku. Giant Robo: The Day the Earth Burned is another story set in the universe created in Giant Robo: The Animation, in which young Daisaku Kusama commands Giant Robo, the mightiest robot of our world, in the battle against the underground terrorist organization known as Big Fire.
