Hiroshi Nakahara, a 48-year-old salaryman, inadvertently boards the wrong train to Tokyo following a business excursion to Kyoto. Upon realizing his mistake, he resigns himself to the situation and settles in for the ride, discovering that the train is en route to his hometown of Kurayoshi.
